Capturing moments, thoughts, major events, and more is what photos and video do. Not taking advantage of these events is not only foolish but also a crucial mistake. YouTube channels are full of people wanting to make money, but more than money is the capability to store every precious moment you have as an individual, a couple, a family, or friend group. "Moments in time" are those events that you don't want to forget or have become a foggy memory. As a teacher, one of our goals is to help students remember things, no matter if they are formulas for math, functions on a computer, or recipes in culinary arts.
During high school I had the great privilege and opportunity to be an exchange student to the Soviet Union, now known as Russia. As we waited at the airport, there was a crucial mistake that was made. I was taking a group picture with some friends and I asked someone to hold my camera. Yep, that was the mistake. I boarded the plane headed to Memphis (airline hub) and then to Stockholm, Sweden and Helsinki, Finland, without my camera. I forgot to get it back from them as we boarded the plane. A trip of a lifetime without a camera to take pictures and document the trip or every experience.
The opportunities and technology we have right now are mind boggling as to how simple it is to record every event and hilarious life outtake. The ability to share with each other through "Airdrop" or transferring via a phone "hot spot" allows everyone to instantly share their captured moments and document every laugh, hug, kiss, joke, or first time experiences. Not doing so eliminates brilliance and nostalgia to ones life.
Our phones record video at 4K. There are 360 degree cameras for pictures and video that captures every thing around you with VR capabilities. Other than phones, the prices are more than affordable.
On family vacations I record as much as possible. There is a saying the "you can never have too much video" (or too many pictures). As time passes by, the trips and vacations become foggy memories, but because they have been put together as videos, those memories are relived repeatedly. Adding an A-Z list as the end also makes us never forget those memories. We use the alphabet to associate an event from the trip to each letter. For example: A="Any seat you want" - a comment the stewardess made b/c the plane was so empty; B=Breakfast Buffet (largest amount of food we ever saw); C=Crazy Drunk Lady; etcetera.
Keeping these moments are more important as time passes b/c one will literally have captured moments in time. The movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" had one line that was repeated at the beginning and end of the movie: "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it". Thus, be sure to record or capture as much of as you want to remember and revisit.
