Engaging and Interactive PowerPoint
PowerPoint is done to DEATH, UNLESS you can.... Engage your user. Anyone can develop, create, and maintain user engagement throughout the learning interface. The primary detail in having a well developed plan of typography, interface, graphics, and interactive opportunities that grabs your users attention and purpose for using your project. Use your space with purpose driven content, not mere space filler. Have a design that uses the whole environment, not gappy, or filled with pointless content. Purpose driven content is essential.
**Each project is built in the “Browsed from a Kiosk” environment in PowerPoint which disables the keyboard (except the ESC key) and mouse click. The only way to progress from page/slide to page/slide is through hyperlinks, action buttons, and utilizing the VB scripting. The ideas above are just some that were introduced as something to eliminate the traditional PowerPoint practices. Having purpose to creation and projects hopefully allows greater investment by those who are their creators. |

Interactive E-Books
Creating an Interactive E-Book. This project focuses on using the Interactive components of PowerPoint. These projects use "Mouse Overs", "Triggers", and a series of animations. The concept is building a short story that engages the reader/user to get them involved into the story experience. There are three full examples that you can see or experience. They are very simple ideas but use advanced techniques. The project has been successfully used on middle/junior high school and high school students. Examples are below. There is also a handout called, "Creating an Interactive Book" for those who may want to see how the content begins and is developed.

This project focuses on a local community or city. An example and handouts are provided. This project works in the "Kiosk" mode. Kiosk mode can be set for a presentation by going to the SlideShow tab | Set Up Slide Show | Browsed at a Kiosk (Full Screen). It also utilizes PPT's "Trigger" concept for interactivity. Two completed examples are included: Huntsville, AL, and Montgomery, AL. These are ideas of what a project may/can look like. Again, everything is built for interactivity, including, hyperlinks, custom graphics, PPT triggers, Kiosk mode, MasterSlide buttons, etc.

Interactive Maze(s)This project utilizes layers, mouse over interactivity, motion and animated graphics. This would be classified as an "Advanced" project. Middle school and high school students enjoy this a lot because of the creative aspect. Each level of the maze has multiple moving parts.
Below, there are two files: (1) A Tutorial of how to create and effective interactive Maze, and also (2) a finalized project, Mazegame Final, to give an example what an individual can develop with a little imagination integrating moving parts into their project.

Presidential Project - This utilized editing video and capturing video (legally) for a portion of the project. The handout highlights concepts to eliminate traditional PowerPoint practices and allow others to create content with guided practice. Having purpose in creation and with projects hopefully allows greater investment by those who create their presentations. The two documents that are shared give a breakdown of the entire project. The project requirements are not listed in any specific order, allowing the student to organize their project themselves. The maximum number of "slides" for this endeavor is a maximum of 6 (ideally) to 7 slides. Underlying goals to this project is time management, organizational processes, and video editing. The second document offers links to presidential libraries publicly shared on YouTube that students can download/extract and then edit to a 30 second clip meeting legal education use for copyright laws.
